1. The two paradigms in discourse analysis research, the structural and the functional, emerge from the double definition of discourse itself, which leads to different assumptions about the goal of discourse analysis.

Discuss and/or illustrate with special reference to the duality of purpose in discourse analysis and its methodological and analytical outcomes.

2. What is the importance of context in discourse analysis? Illustrate your answer with relevant examples.
3. What is the relation of pragmatics to discourse analysis? Illustrate your answer with relevant examples
